Not sure what happened but i am assuming there were some heavy tools and such being thrown on. Laminate is a durable and inexpensive way to update or install new countertops in your kitchen. Disappointed emily6386 i was so excited to get my new faux white marble countertop however after the 4 hour drive home from the ikea store we opened the box and there was a gap on the edge of the counter top where the two pieces of laminate butt up to one another it looks terrible and i cannot use. Even though laminate is a durable material you should never place hot pots or pans directly on the countertop without a trivet or pot stand. When you have a longer countertop another section must be added which creates a seam. The only negative i could say is there is a tiny chip on the counter surface of the ikea counter which i think the installer must have knicked.

These surfaces are resistant to scuffs scratches heat and most anything that happens in a busy kitchen. Ikea liked the colors much better vs hd. All laminate countertops have gaps and seams. The cleaner the installation the smaller the seams but even the narrowest gaps are still visible.

Now i am out 80 can t used the counter top and don t have time to drive back to ikea. No seams over the dishwasher or cooktop due to support issues. Basically any plastic laminate countertop which has a special type edge is going to need to be completely replaced if water has damaged the seam area. Laminate countertops are constructed in 12 foot lengths. Seams can t be eliminated but they can be hidden with a seam filler that matches the laminated surface s color. Most ikea countertops come with edge banding.
